As a fan who grew up with the reruns in the old school, analog 70s days of “you watch whatever is on TV” I was fortunate enough to lead the licensing of the first-ever commercial broadcast for “I Love Lucy”, with separate deals struck with the estates of Lucille Ball and Vivian Vance, and CBS for the show itself.
It was truly a quintessential BBDO moment, as you can see above when we shot with Pytka and digitally inserted Shaq into the legendary “Job Switching” episode for Pepsi…watch the ad here: http://bit.ly/AfedED

“Set Piece”
In honor of Lucille Ball’s 100th birthday, this is an epic TV spot we did for Pepsi at BBDO back in ‘96 that featured the first-ever licensing deal for “I Love Lucy”, the same episode & sequence featured on today’s Google doodle. The episode was called “Job Switching”, which originally ran on CBS back in the 50s, and we rotoscoped Shaq into the famous scene grabbing a candy for good measure.
This commercial is also notable for the first-ever licensing of The Honeymooners TV show & the legendary Jackie Gleason - a scene from a lost episode entitled “Finger Man”, for hardcore fans keeping track.
Who says there’s nothing good on TV. Happy birthday, Lucy.
