Be Absolutely Sure
Behind the scenes shooting Monster.com’s “Battle” TV spot for BBDO back in 2008.
Production is always a blast.

On set with BBDO & Monster.com’s “Moose” TV shoot
GPOYW
On location in Monument Valley, Utah, shooting with Joe Pytka and the late ’90s BBDO NY creative A-Team.
Joe is the recent recipient of the 2011 CLIO Lifetime Achievement Award, and I am fortunate to have worked on several epic, award-winning campaigns with the cantankerous, immensely talented director & DP (click the photo for the link to the CLIO bio page).
Congratulations, Joe.
“Slots”
Produced by BBDO for the Monster.com global brand relaunch, and shot by the enigmatic Frank Budgen, we filmed this ad all over & under the city one very long week in Buenos Aires.
Find your own path.
“Double Take”
This ad for Monster.com debuted in Super Bowl 2009, shot by Kleinman for BBDO, and highlighted the company’s new site, career tools, and a big claim - “over a million new jobs available worldwide.”
Unfortunately, even a million jobs seemingly wasn’t enough, as the global economy tanked and unemployment soared in the heart of the great recession. Consequently, being under a moose ass at work is a situation many could identify with.
Your calling is calling.
“Take Offs”
Restaging a brand is always a great challenge and opportunity, and launching the “Be Absolutely Sure” campaign for BBDO for our client FedEx was a bit of both.
In addition to filming planes practicing “touch and goes” on the tarmac, this ad represented my single greatest education in music rights clearance - literally a dozen tracks (master and recording of course, except for “Oklahoma”) had to be secured, by legendary artists from Little Richard to Lynyrd Skynyrd to Ella Fitzgerald.
Got an important package?
“Statistics”
Creating this pro bono campaign at BBDO on behalf of the NYPD Police Athletic League was a really satisfying experience, and seeing PAL alum Jimmy Smits (who we literally picked up from location shooting for NYPD Blue) hanging out with kids from the Bronx was a powerful message of hope.
“Gladiator”
One great week back in the day at Tracy Locke was spent shooting this commercial (actually covering the POS shoot) in the colosseum backlot at CineCitta, Rome - the Italian Hollywood where Tarsem brought it all to life.
Getting the surviving members of Queen to re-record “We will rock you”, with Britney, Pink, Beyonce and Enrique was really incredible. The best moment in an epic production was when Brian May went to take a picture with the celeb cast in costume on the emperor’s throne, and reminisced how “Freddie would have loved this”.
This 3 minute ad ran for free as preroll content in theaters around the world.
Only Pepsi could bring together the world’s greatest pop stars…
“Daybreak”
Monster.com’s epic campaign for the brand relaunch, as shot by Fuglsig in Tandil, Argentina for BBDO.
Don’t fight Monday.
